  1. Same way as any other dog. Crate training is a good option.

Obviously this is the most popular question in this category. You didn’t need to ask it again. Use the search, you will find 100s of answers to this. Crate training is good… paper training is a little confusing for them sometimes.

There are also many web sites and books on this subject, as it is considered by many to be the most important training the dog will ever get. Use the Google :)

  2. P;EASE RESCUE YOUR CHI!!!! PLEASE SAVE A LIFE!!!! THERES SHELTERS: AND RESCUE GROUPS FOR EVERY BREED

( 2 years is NOT 4ever, Thats how long it usually may take for toy breeds to have full bladder control. REMEMBER CATCH you pup doing good. REDIRECT “bad ” into a positive.) NEVER rub its nose in it!!!!! it its DIRTY body waste that can make them sick.

IF my chi could talk:(Tasha was a street rescue at 2 1/2 mos. she weighed a pound.)

going potty was the funnest trick i learned. i was taken faithfully EVERY 15 Min’s to the pad. corralled with hands to block my exiting the pad. told hurry go potty, hurry hurry. go potty. good potty go potty and you get a cookie. i got cookies EVERY potty most of the cookies tasted like kibble or fridge treats. if i went potty on the pad and didn’t get a cookie i was sure to go *** else where. i NEVER got ******* or yelled at pot tying else where because its not my fault i wasn’t watched closely in behavior that i needed to go. also since i am not scolded i don’t hide behavior when no ones looking.i also liked hearing Tasha come and running real fast through the house to find my potty room QUICKLY be cause i got a cookies. i learned my name and to come and JUST where i could ***. houses are so big and confusing. i picked it up in 2/3 days. i NEVER get my nose rubbed in it its DIRTY body waste that can make me sick. perhaps tell your mommy this way. puppy hood can be as EASY or as hard as you make it. a human baby was trained similar to this way with in a week day and night. she was only 16 mos old too. once i mastered the bigger pad it was put outside and have a little cat pan with a pad in it inside JUST in case. i am a PROFESSIONAL *** pad pee-er now.

Teaching puppies to ring a bell to tell you they need to go outside

I use a “sleigh bell” type bell that I purchased at a craft store.
It’s about 1 1/2″ in diameter. I attached it to a length of cord and
hung it from the doorknob of the door we use most often to go out to
potty at about the pup’s nose height. Each time we went to the door,
I would jingle the bell and say “outside, go potty”, then open the
door. After about a week of that then I waited a moment after we got
to the door. If nothing happened within 5-10 seconds I repeated
the procedure. Within a few days the pups all seemed to be
interested in the bell and make some motion toward it. I rewarded
them with praise and quickly opened the door. By the end of the
second week I just stood at the door and waited :-) They knew the
routine that went with going out so when I didn’t ring it, they did.
Lots of praise and quickly open the door.

The big “leap” came when I’d taken my eyes off them and they went to
the door and rang the bell without me. I quickly went and opened the
    door.

Now some people questioned whether bell ringing and getting me to
“jump” would become a fun dog game. I found that in time I didn’t
respond to “fake” rings so they didn’t play that game much. As they
got older there were times when one would ring but I was busy. If he
really needed to go, he would keep ringing until I came. Otherwise
he’d go do something else for a bit.

Since my original bell training days I have installed a doggie door
in the storm door. That saves me a few steps. In the evening when
Tego likes to go in and out a bit, she now can. But if the main door
is closed and she needs to go out, she still rings the bell.

There are also some commercially available “door bells” that the dog
hits with a paw to make it chime. These might be more suited to use
on the outside of the door for when the dog wants back in. I tend to
favor staying by the door during potty training to let them back in
as soon as they are finished. It short-circuits some of the other
behaviors that are likely to develop (jumping on the door, barking,
scratching). If the pup tried any of these undesirable behaviors, I
would walk away from the door and wait until they were quiet before
returning and letting them in. I’ve always had a window in or near
the door so I could observe them. Dogs are *very* good at training
us. So don’t reward (by attending to) and behaviors you dislike. If
they bark and you open the door, you are teaching them that barking
gets the door to open :-)

  3. I took my girls out often for several days then slowly made it longer and longer times out. They are smart dogs and will catch on with lots of love and patience’s. Many people paper train Chihuahua’s first but I didn’t.
