Resolved Question: Dog sleeping in the bed? |
My boyfriend just recently moved in with his 2 year old female Pit Bull. She is the one of the best dogs I’ve ever met or lived with, except for one problem…My boyfriend got her when she was a puppy and she likes to sleep under the covers in the bed with us, and he never trained her not to, I guess because he thought it was cute? The first couple weeks of them moving in, I didn’t mind her sleeping with us. After that I would wake up several times in the night and have to push her off the bed or move her just so I could be comfortable. Eventually I got very mad at my boyfriend and started yelling at him for not training her to not be on the bed. It doesn’t bother him at night, but I can’t sleep when I have so little comfort options and I’m still getting used to sharing a bed every night at all. She’s perfectly trained in every other aspect, and like I said, she’s a GREAT dog. We have tried locking her in her cage at night, but we live in an apartment and after an hour she starts howling and barking and trying to claw her way out, and I’m afriad of the neighbors complaining. I also don’t think it is fair because it sends the message that she did something wrong. She has her own dog bed that we keep right beside ours, but she refuses to use it at night. I know she doesn’t know any better and that all she wants is to be with us, but does anyone know a way we can train her to not sleep on the bed at her age? Especially without us losing too much valuable sleep?**I feel the need to ask users for every question that they please be polite and respectful when answering, it makes me very upset when people I don’t know say ignorant and rude things when I don’t know them.
