Open Question: Whats the best way to train our blue heeler from jumping on people? |
He does it when hes hyper and excited and when he wants attention, but its just too much, since when he jumps or is on his back legs hes easily taller than my mother and some of my friends. Weve tried having him on his leash and jently pulling back and giving a swift tug to get him down, but it does nothing, just makes him stand taller, weve tried ignoring him and turning away as well, still nothing. Ive heard of no jump harnesses, but dont know if they work, My husband wants to try a shock collar but I dont want to hurt him. Weve also tried the water bottle trick, that backfired since he wanted to jump and attack the water bottle. Hes a sweet dog if he knows you, but if he doesnt like you he gets defensive (he wont attack unless me or my kids are threatened though, we know from experience) Anyways, hes really strong also, He can easily snap a leash if he was threatened too much ( my neighbor was trying to break into our house when me and my kids came home from walking him and our neighbor pulled a knife out (he was drunk) and that made whiskey (our dog) go after him, The leash snaped in two, and whiskey attacked his arm.Oh a little training background, My uncle was training him as a police dog, but he didnt make it past the second stage. He was way to playfull and didnt have enough concentraction, he got past the attack, sit, find and lay commands just fine but hes too hyper for work, my uncle is a police officer with Atlanta PD and i was the one who watched whiskey when he was on sick leave, so naturally I took him in when he “flunked” outThey do have citronella collars here, but i just didnt think it would work, I guess it would since they dont like it but wouldnt it hurt their eyes?
