Open Question: What is the most common source on a knock in a Chevy 305 Vortec.? |
I’m a Ford Guy who is used to the 302 and its noises. (None) Please help reasure me that I wasn’t Fooled into marrying a dog because of her pretty face. Worried it could be a Piston connecting rod. The sound is similar to a valve noise and is coming from the left middle side of the engine when it is warming up between 60 and 80 degrees (Canadian) [just under operating temp]. I dripped a little 20w50 in the filler neck (Just above the noise) to quit the valve (if it is a valve or lifter) with no result. I wouldn’t worry one minute about a valve train noise but this sounds deeper, (more of a tock than a tick). Can only hear this noise at idle, when it tocks about twice a second.Thank You For Your Time.correction #1 (Reason for an engine knock) #2 (quite instead of quit)
