Open Question: What has your dog learned without formal training? |
By this I mean not through sitting down for 15 minutes and cranking out the clicker and dog treats, but through normal situations and your reactions. He’s probably figured out a lot, but the biggest thing I think is when I clap or slap my knees, the noise means “Come!” I always used to do it when I said his name so he began to associate the noise as another command. He has also figured out that when I pat the couch it means he can come on. And when we play games and I put the toy behind my back he knows where it’s going to end up, since I usually follow a pattern. There’s probably a lot more but it’s all I can really think of. It’s kind of funny because when I go to friends’ houses I get a little frustrated when their dogs stare at me clueless while Judge would immediately react.
