Open Question: Not sure what killed my dog and I’m feeling guilty.? |
I bought Belle (cocker spaniel) Dec. 04. I kept her up to date on all shots and she was fine up until around Oct 05′ she started vomiting for a long period. I took her to the vet and they did blood work and she had elevated liver enzymes. Another year went by and the same thing happened. Then, last year while I was in basic training, my grandmother whom was taking care of her, had to take her back to the vet because she was doing the same thing but had gotten more severe. She ended up staying at the vet for 11 days and all they did was treat her. She did get better after receiving fluids and medication.I moved to Florida in Jan and she was fine up until around August. She started having orange diarrhea and was vomiting a lot. I took her to the vet here and he gave her denosyl and fluids and she got better. After about 2 weeks after that, she started doing the same thing. He recommended giving her milk thistle. She got better again after forcing pedialyte and giving her the milk thistle. A week ago she started having really bad orange diarrhea with like a clear jelly in it. That went away after a day and she continued to eat and drink, however, she was slacking off a little bit. On Thursday around 6 pm she got really weak and was staggering when she walked. Later she was jaundice, peeing dark brown urine and was unable to get up so she started peeing on herself. She also started seizuring over and over and continued until I got to the emergency vet. They gave her valium and fluids. I called about 5:30am cause I couldn’t sleep and was worried to death. They said she was still in the same place she was when I dropped her off and that she hadn’t moved. An hour and a half later, they called and said she had vomitted brown stuff and passed away. Now, I’m in Florida away from family and friends and she is all I had here. I feel like I could have done something different or more. I’ve called the vet and she said they did everything they could as far as medical wise and that she had a poor prognosis anyways. I don’t feel this way and she was my little baby girl. I miss her so much and just want to know what could have killed her. They had mentioned cancer before, but thought if it was, then she wouldn’t have lived as long as she had. Any suggestions or comments???
