Open Question: My neighbor’s mini doxie barking & howling - anything they can do that won’t take any of their time? |
The folks upstairs have a cute little doxie girl. They recently lost their boy when it ran away. The girl was a barker before the other dog ran away, but now it’s CONSTANT - she’s howling and barking for hour after hour! They often leave her alone for 10-14 hours a day. The dog gets no exercise - just quick potty breaks outside. The owners “don’t have the time” to walk her more. They wouldn’t spend money on a dog walker. They also won’t undertake ANY training because they “don’t have time.”They believe that the dog’s behavior will improve as she gets used to being alone. But, it’s been two weeks with zero improvement. And, I doubt it’ll get better without exercise & training.I’ve suggested a stuffed kong (which I don’t believe they’ve purchased) and leaving the TV on. Having the television hasn’t helped. I would offer to walk the dog or even have her spend a little time here with my corgi boys. But, they don’t like me much and think I spend too much time exercising and playing with my dogs. (My guys are high energy well trained dogs, and I do try wear them out at least twice a day.)So, any ideas for my neighbors? It would have to be something they could do with no effort & cheaply. Thanks!I should clarify that the dog isn’t left for 10-14 hours without a potty break. Someone does come home around the 8 hr. point & give her a quick trip outside before they leave again. One more thing - we’re not in an apartment community. It’s a 2-story home that’s been divided into 2 separate apartments (one upstairs & one downstairs). We’re each renting one. We’re in a rural area, and the yard is about 2 acres with a pond in the back & a creek running through it. It SHOULD be doggie heaven!
