Open Question: Is this separation anxiety, I need help?

My dog is about 3-4 years old and he was great when I first adopted him. During the last month he has destroyed my home – a very expensive bed, door frames, a window sill and a couch (which was free….thankfully!). I do however have a foster dog for a local humane society and trying my best to hand him off to another foster parent…no luck so far. I know my dog gets jealous and now I’m starting to think some anxiety has come into play :-\I crate the foster during the day and most nights and only have one crate. As soon as he’s gone I’m going to properly crate train my dog. I close off the bathroom and bedroom but he breaks into my room because the door is flimsy. I even created a barrier in the hallway using chairs and a sheet and he busted right through it and caused damage. I leave plenty of toys and chews out – even snacks in the living room for him to find – and food and water of course (he’s a night time snacker). I switch out the toys too to ‘keep it interesting and fresh.’ They go to the dog park just about everyday form 1 hour to 2 even more and I’m run around with them when I’m out there. He always behaves when I’m home (btw he is a chow and GSD mix with some staffy bull terrier). I came within an inch of returning him to the place where I adopted him but it breaks my heart thinking about it because he is my first dog.Today I started boarding him with the vet at $5 a day – I’ll be bringing him home every night and have him here on weekends. Once the foster dog is out I need to sit down and teach my dog to ‘good’ again. I’m also seeing the vet tomorrow to get him on meds even to help him out.I guess my questions is – can you give me some advice? Preferably owners with a similar experience if not spot on.
