Open Question: How Do You Train a Dog to Stop Barking When Left Home Alone? |
A friend of mine recently was given a dog (under 2 years old, it’s a little poodle mix). Prior to him owning it, the dog was at a home where it was left alone most of the day and thus is prone to really acting up when left alone now.The biggest problem is that he lives in an apartment, and has already received complaints after only the first day of having it, because the dog wouldn’t stop whining and barking when he went out for a few hours. So, now he’s stuck bringing it everywhere with him unless he gives it up or moves. This option isn’t going to work for long, either, as the weather gets colder or hotter and he can’t leave it in the dog while shopping. What are some tips to help train the dog to stop barking when he goes out? It gets so worked up when he comes home too, absolutely in a frenzy because it was so lonely and scared it’d be left alone for longer. Any help would be appreciated, even websites with tips. His kids (and him) love the dog..it’d be so heartbreaking if it has to go! Just to note, he cannot afford professional training or help. That’s why we’re looking for options he can do himself.Just to note, he cannot afford professional training or help. That’s why we’re looking for options he can do himself.Oops. That submitted twice. lol
