Open Question: How do I train my dog to tell me when he needs to go outside? |
He’s usually pretty good about going outside, but after over 3 months that I’ve had him (he’s at least 2 years old, not completely sure as he is a rescue), he still isn’t able to tell me when he needs to go. I try and keep a pretty good schedule of when I take him out, but being that I work in a dog grooming shop and often take him to work with me, I think he’s getting used to going wherever he wants like he’s in the shop. I want to know how I can teach him to tell me when he needs to go. I praise him when he goes potty outside, and when he goes inside I show him his accident and tell him “No!!” but he’s still having trouble with letting me know that he’s gotta go outside.Yeah he doesn’t poop inside, he just pees sometimes. And I don’t hit my dog, so no worries on that. He was abused by his previous owners, so I tend to baby him. I like the answers about taking him to the door and making him sit, I don’t know if the bell will work as we have a little demon cat, too, and he likes to be as irritating as possible…I can see him constantly swatting a bell on the door…
