Open Question: How can I get my dog after he’s run outside? |
My boyfriend has a Jack Russel/Parson Terrier. He is a very active little guy and very energetic. We take him for walks once a day, sometimes twice (not including bathroom walks). It is a recurring problem, however, that he runs out the door when it is opened. For the most part we are able to prevent him from running but every once in a while he gets loose. This last time was almost fatal when he ran into on-going traffic in a 50mph zone. Needless to say this was very scary for us. We have tried luring him with food, treats, promised car rides, our other dogs…nothing seems to get his attention. We have tried door training him but he doesn’t seem to connect the training to a real life situation. We will continue the training but I was wondering if anyone knew any good ideas that might attract his attention to us once he is out.
