Open Question: Help!I am feeling somehat overwhelmed by new puppy…? |
I waited many years, until my children were older,to even adopt a dog…because I am aware of the time, commitment, etc. involved in caring for a dog.Anyways,2 weeks ago we adopted a 6 month old Lab mix.He is sweet and loving…FULL of energy,as I knew he would be…and he barks way too much.I am doing my best to train him to stop barking for every little thing, etc. He is housebroken,so that is a huge bonus. He was adopted from the Humane Society, and he has been well cared for.One of the main reasons that I wanted a Lab or Lab mix is for my youngest son,age 9,who is mildly autistic.I had heard that they are an excellent breed for special needs children,as a companion, even a service dog, etc.Buy my son pretty much stays away from the pup.My teenagers are busy with lots of activities, but do help take him for a walk etc.I guess I am just asking if it will go away…this feeling of being overwhelmed.I love this pup,but at times feel that I have taken on too much in adopting him.(And obviously it was not something I took lightly in doing so…)
