Open Question: Golden Retriever/Great Dane! what to do?!?

My absolute passion is Great Danes, but my husband thinks that a Great Dane is to much for us right now, I’m a stay at home mom with my 13month old son, & I am so longing to have a dane in my life!Anyway, We both love Goldens also, but I just am wanting a dane so bad I can’t stand it! It something I have been waiting for, for a very long time, and after telling me to go ahead and search out breeders, and everything for a Great Dane he is NOW just telling me, well maybe a Dane would be to much right now.His reasoning was mainly because We have to walk down 13concrete stairs to get down to our car, and me holding a baby, just wouldn’t work..Ehh, Now I just wish we hadn’t moved into this house for this very reason!! When we moved in we agreed on getting a great dane, but now it seems to be falling apart. He said he was Perfectly fine with a Golden, Smaller & more managable. So, I thought well we aren’t planning on staying in this house for more than 1-2years if that, So My dream can come true later on. So, I start my golden search..But, When looking through breeders, and puppies I am just not happy about it at all, Looking through all the Golden Puppies dont even make me happy, thinking about having one sitting here with me right now, doesn’t either.I am so attached to the idea of bringing a Dane home & Having a dane…I am really sad about it all.I have the time to train, Socialize a dane, I know all about the breed, and have put Years into That Research. Now, All that feels like for nothing, and it’s sad looking at golden puppies, when I should be happy. What Should I do? Not get a Puppy right now period?I love dogs, and would love to have one in my life, they have always been a very intriquete part in my life & miss having one around….I’m very confused.. Help!I’ve owned a golden mix! We loved him dearly..Smart, Fast Learner, SO LOYAL!, He was just a great dog.I have always wanted a Dane, and no dog in our home would EVER be temporary! He would live out his years in comfort, & be spoiled rotten!I think I am stuck on a dane, and just switched way to fast over to wanting a golden. I do see some of my hsbands points in the house we live in right now. but, not enough to completely drop a dane from our options.I am going tomorrow to meet a golden actually, so we will see how things go.We will be meeting puppies, and the parents!I’m very excited. Pups wont be ready for another 2weeks, which is good so I wont do anything on Impulse.Thanks. I love great danes, I’ve done years upon years of research keeping updated on the latest news on health, training etc…And It’s hard to go from looking into wonderful ethical breeders, and really talking about getting a pup to, We possibly might not be able to have one, and me having to wait another 2years!I want the time to be right, Great Danes do require more money for everything, so this is also a factor, but not as big as my husband thinking I can’t handle a dane right now with my son. I thin the reason my husband is so reluctant is because he has never seen a well trained dog! My Golden Mix died before my husband and I even met & he required little training, he picked up things so easy, and was ALWAYS trying to please. Of course I know he was an exception to most, but my husband not seeing a well trained dog, I guess he thinks getting a great dane would be disaster. Which would be without training.Miagi, I know exactly what you are saying, and it has crossed my mind. But, I have seen PLENTY!!! of people raising small children with Danes just fine. Goldens are hands down the best for a family though, I agree with you 100%!
