Open Question: Dog Temperament: Which is more important – Nature or Nurture?

In questions on here regarding pit bulls and aggressive dogs, I keep seeing the same thing over and over and over “It”s all in how you raise them” and “raise it from a puppy and it will be ok.”Yet, no good breeder will breed a dog with a bad temperament for fear that the temperament will be passed on. I mean, you breed two dogs with ultra high work drives and the chances are high that the pups will have high work drives. . .So, do you weigh one more than another? Genetics or Upbringing? Is it irrational to not want to rescue a pit bull puppy due to fear that it may attack your dog or cat? You know you’ll raise it right, but you know those bad genetics could be in there? Is it dangerous to look at bad temperaments only as a “training problem”?Can training overcome an inherited bad temperament? Is there any hope for dogs with bad temperaments?
