Open Question: crate training our dog? |
we just adopted a 7 year old shih tzu from our local pets for seniors rescue. she is adorable and was just spayed on the 5th of this month and is doing great. very lovable and completely housebroken but at night and at our mealtime we have a portable carrier crate to put her in. She is very reluctant at going into it and we have to throw a snack in there to get her to go in. Once she is in and the door is closed she is fine but how do you suggest that we get her to go in it willingly without a snack? At the kennel she was kept in her own private wire cage. Could she get scared because it is a smaller space and that is why she is reluctant to go in? We just brought her home yesterday. Don’t want to make her scared to go in it but need her to get used to entering by herself. Please give us some suggestions on how to help her with this crate. One friend said that it might be too small but she can curl up and also stretch out completely from end to end in it and did sleep in it last night. thank you for your help.
