Open Question: Border Collie, aggression issues keeping him from agility, children and crowds? |
I have a 3 year old, male border collie, fixed. we have had him since he was a puppy. He has always had a bit of an attitude. We used to call him battie when he was a pup, cuz he is all black and would show his teeth and bite play. He has been teased by neighbor kids while fenced in the back yard, they would lunge at him, throw things at him ext. He always gets alert, lunges, barks and if possible bites at loud children, people he doesn’t know and or people who show fear. He is a hearding dog so we feel as though he is trying to heard people. he doesn’t bite down, just nips at them and crouches down to challenge them. We have a new baby, but worry that he will snap at her too. he is fine with her now. I have been training him since she was born to back down when she cries loudly, or is on the floor playing. He knows that she is off limits and does great listening to me. But what if she gets older and grabs on to his fur, or starts running and sets him off….. The other problem is I want to take him to this agility park, but they don’t allow aggressive dogs. he needs to get out and run, play and be socialized. I am thinking of getting a muzzle to start with so that I can train him, and prevent an accident. any suggestions??
