Open Question: Best way to stop my dog from taking my 22-month-old daughter’s food off of her plate? |
My daughter is a very slow eater, and she’s at the age where she sits in a booster seat at her kiddie table. Because of that, our 9-month-old puppy is also able to reach her table top. I need to break the dog of the habit NOW of taking her food from my daughter and from the table. However, I am totally against smacking/punching/whacking or hitting the dog to accomplish this. I don’t believe in physical violence with kids or dogs. Don’t lecture me on this, just accept that is who I am.What is the best way to deal with this in a way that the dog will learn you do not touch food on a table? I would like to be able to leave food on a coffee table for a party in the future without having to worry about the dog eating the food.My three past dogs were easy to train with a simple “no” and “sit” but this one is a chow/Alaskan eskimo mix and is VERY stubborn and very clever.I don’t want to isolate the dog from her table because I’d like to be able to leave food on tables in the near future for parties. My other dogs have/had been great around food.
