Open Question: Are these examples of classical conditioning? |
I have to give an ex of classical conditioning from my own life. When I was 4 I accidentally killed a bird and was yelled at (obviously) and punished.I now have a severe emotional reaction to seeing pictures, hearing about or seeing dead or hurt animals. I also have a extreme fear of anything dead in general and will not go into cemataries, see a dead person or animal, go to a funeral or wake etc. I just don’t really know where the USC,UCR, CS and CR fit into this equation. Another example I could use is that my boyfriend is in the army, and everytime I see photos, commercials or articles or news casts or anything talking about anyone in the army, marines or any military I turn off the t.v, change the channel, look away or whatever, I don’t watch t.v shows like army wives or anything that has a character who’s in the military, I also won’t watch war movies because I guess I am conditioned to protect myself from the emotional distress these images and thoughts bring me, before my bf was in the army we were already at war and when i saw these commercials before I never was upset by them, however I don’t know if its just a “normal” reaction because I suppose a lot of people do get sad thinking about it because we (america) are at war. so i’m not really sure if this is actually classical conditioning or not..Also if you could explain how classical conditioning works a little better, in application with humans that’d be very helpful as i really only get the pavlov’s dog example and have trouble applying the concept to humans. What do you think its no longer classical conditioning or is it classical conditioning when people are trained in the military? They are trained to kill and be emotionally closed off, is this classical conditioning, if so how would you apply it w/ usc, ucr, cs and cr?
