How do you stop a dog barking all the time? |

At night it is because he wants upstairs so that he can sleep on my mom’s bed. He usually wakes us up at around 3am, and she relents because she is tired.
During the day i think its mainly down to boredom-what can we do to remedy this?
I’ve heard of anti-bark collars but they are really expensive.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
My mom walks a friend’s dog 3 days a week who barks a lot, and he only started doing this after being together with her for a while. They usually sit downstairs and howl together, even after having had a long walk.

Really try and find out the reason for this barking. I have used a empty can filled with pebbles ..and shook it when they barked. Works well as long as they are in the house.
neighbours can get a noise abatement order, and in some cases people have to get rid of their dog short of cutting its vocal chords out the dog is needing trained properly, bad owners are responsible by leaving two dogs alone to howl all night id be ready to get the police at your door that is a disgrace..brings a bad name to good dog owners. this dog is ruling the roost and needs his nads cut off for starters and then given a new strict training regime. as everyones miserable cos of the 4 legged ******.
If my dog barks when i dont want him too, ie, he sees the post man. I put him immediately out in the garden and shout at him sturnly.. and il leave him out there until he has calmed down and realised the erors of his ways ^_^
it seems to work as most of the time when the postman comes, he will sit and growl to himself, not loud enough for me to put him out, but loud enough to let me know he is not fond of the guys bright red coat lol lol ^_^
also, if you constantly give into him barking to get upstairs he will become more and more stubborn.. he needs putting in his place, if you say no. it means no! it will be a never ending circle if you do not stick to the rules… that means no up on the couch, no up stairs, no food off plates, its just common sence, most dogs go through this faze. the owner just needs to be extra sturn
Does the dog need to survive the anti barking treatment?
It is hard to stop your dog from barking but it’s possible. You can buy (not shock collars) but these collars that when the dog barks it will spray water on the dog.
They are totally bored!! Walk the dog for 30 minutes before you go to work in the morning. Buy a kong toy and stuff it with dog goodies, like can dog food. Freeze it, then give it to the dog during the day when you are gone. The dog will be busy trying to get the food out, he won’t be barking during the day. Maybe use 2 of them so you can change off, use peanut butter also. Barking at night can be solved by letting the dog sleep on his bed in your moms room. This way everyone is getting a good night sleep.
i did the anti bark collar, its a citrinella candle collar, no kidding. like for misquitos, citrinella. When the dog barks it sparys that smell and for some reason dogs are sensitive to it.
It was the only thing that worked and after about a week of wearing it, we removed it and shes behaved ever since!
during the day let her out, walk her…give her exercise time and plenty of it when you are home to tire her out and get out excess energy! give her lots of toys too
This is a neighbour’s worst nightmare I have to say. The nightime barking is comparatively easily stopped by ‘giving in’ and having your dog in a crate by your bed. I know the purists around here will scream in horror, but sometimes discretion and all that!!! For the sake of not having the noise abatement people hammering on your door. And in the UK, the local Council can and will be on your back if neighbours’ complaints can be substantiated.
Daytime barking, when he’s alone is quite another problem. Walking him so he’s tired out before you leave him might be part of the answer, but my experience is dogs will carry on for long after you are exhausted from walking, and at best, may only crash for half an hour!!
How long is this dog being left on his own. The simple, if unwanted, truth is it may be that you are expecting too much of your dog. Some breeds do better than others in terms of being alone for hours on end but a dog is a pack animal, and it’s verging on cruelty to leave them for longer than 4 hours at a time. You can leave them for longer, occasionally, but not regularly. If you can’t find somebody to come in and sit, at least part of the time you are not there, then I’m afraid you either have to move somewhere the dog can shout his head off without bothering neighbours (not great, but from a keeping the peace point of view, one answer), or you have to consider whether you are really being fair in keeping this dog.
You could consider kennelling them (boarding) during the week if your lifestyle has you working 9 – 5? This would get rid of the noise problem as far as your neighbours are concerned.
Hope you can sort this out because, as I say, living next to a barking dog is no fun!! Been there – and I have had up to 12 dogs on occasions so I’m far from anti dog!!!
