How can I make my dog stop scratching?

stop dog scratching
huhididnthearyou asked:

My dog bites the base of his tail until the fur goes away and it bleeds. He also scratches behind his ears until they bleed. He doesn’t have flees, he’s just dumb I guess. How can I make him stop?

I can warn him and he’ll stop but he just tries again a minute later.

  1. Take him to the vet. it could be serious

  2. If he’s scratching that bad you should take him to the vet.
He’s not dumb he’s either got sensitive skin or allergies or fleas and mites.
The hot spots can become infected and are a constant irritant.
The vet can check for the above problems and give you allergy pills if that’s the case.

  3. A lot of dogs tend to make habits of this, and it can be bad- they will make bald spots if allowed.

Honestly, I’d take him to the vet. He could have something down there that is bugging him and he’s trying to get rid of. It’s possible he has some kind of bug down there beside a flea.

If he’s not on flea medication however, I’d recommend putting him on Front Line or some other kind of flea medication.

But yes, defenietely take him to get checked out.

  4. take him to the vet and find out why he itches….stop punishing the dog for something he has no control over….he’s miserable so get the dog some help.

  5. Hot spots can go all over his body. As well as it can be flees. You should have him on flee stuff and if that dont work then have him treated for hot spots.

  6. The areas your dog is biting are typical areas dogs itch for allergies. You can tell him to stop, but he really can’t. It must be very bad for him to be scratching until it bleeds. Take him to the vet for the vet’s opinion. If it’s allergies, there are lots of treatments to help him.

  7. He could have a skin rash, an allergy, hot spots, fleas that you don’t see, the mange…. his scratching is so bad you probably need to have him checked by a vet.

Before you do, you could also try a good shampoo with Sulfadene.

You need to wash the areas he’s attacked and coat the skiin with cortisone ointment or cortisone spray 10% that they sell for animals.

You could also get kennel dip and put it into solution and wet him down good.

  8. go to the vet because its probebly either mange or allergys but the vet will give you somthing to cure it.

    HOPE I HELPED!!!!
