Just like all the books and videos. I have five dogs that, individually, heel and auto sit when I stop. But, put them all together... CHAOS! Someone needs to show how to train the pack owner.

I used to practice with small dogs on a stone wall. With the dog on the wall I could do the exercise with the dog right next to me. I also do training sessions on a table with small dogs.

That's a good idea, provided the dog won't fall of the wall and if you can find such wall close to where you live. Thanks for reply.

Hi, I'm trying to teach my in-laws Golden Retriever to heel so we can have nice walks w/no pulling. I got the Gentle Leader but if I give him slack, in 3 seconds he's ahead of me. He doesn't seem to mind the ongoing pull of the GL unless there is a sudden, sharp tug. And I freq have to stop and remind him to heel. Could he be a slow learner? Any suggestions?

When he has the shoe in his mouth, just tell him ''no'' in a serious but not high voice and give him a chew toy to chew on and place ur shoes away from him. (practicing it numerous times helps as well with stones and sticks) to teach ur dog to heel. put him on a long leash and call his name and say heel. pull him til he comes and give a treat and/or congratulate. Never EVER call the pup to punish him. that way he will associate the word heel only to positiveness. I hope I was helpful. -D.Razor
